Eight MPs and more than 80MCAs allied to DP William Ruto are among incumbents who fell in the UDA primaries in the North Rift region.

The MPs who were defeated include Caleb Kositany (Soy) who was vying for  governorUasin Gishu and finished sixth in the UDA race to succeed Governor Jackson Jackson.

Politician Johnathan Bii will succeed Mandago.

Emgwen MP Alex Kosgey who was running for the Senate seat lost to incumbent Senator Samson Cherargei.

Other MPs in Nandi who lost include Vincent Tuwei (Mosop), Cornel Serem (Aldai) and Wilson Kogo (Chesumei) and Tecla Tum who is the Woman Representative in Nandi but had ran for the the Emgwen MP seat.

“I thank the people of Nandi for giving me another chance to lead them. We are happy that the UDA primaries have also proved that our party is popular and strong,” Cherargei said.

In Elgeyo Marakwet, MP James Murgor (Keiyo North) and Daniel Rono (Keiyo South) also lost to newcomers.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen’s aide Adams Kipsanai caused a surprise after he defeated Murgor to bag UDA party ticket.

Kipsanai garnered 6,523 against Murgor's 6, 383 in the hotly contested primaries.

Keiyo South MP Daniel Rono also lost in the UDA primaries. Gideon Kimaiyo. popularly known as Sonko, garnered more than 12,000 votes. which was more than of half his second rival's haul.

However, in Marakwet West, MP Bowen Kangogo like MP William Kisang were were among the winners.

Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wesley Rotich won the UDA ticket for the governor.

He defeated former Police IG Joseph Boinnet and several other aspirants who wanted to succeed outgoing governor Alex Tolgos.

Boinnet made a false start in his debut in politics and has not commented on the results of the UDA primaries.

Rotich thanked residents for the support they had given him during the gruelling campaigns.

"I am grateful for the great honour bestowed on me by the great people of Elgeyo Marakwet," Rotich said after he received the certificate.

Rotich got more than 42,000 votes while Boinnet came in second with about 32,000 votes.

Allies of Boinnet claimed tampering but UDA officials said the results were credible and verifiable.

Others who lost in the race included educationist Josphat Sawe, businessman Julius Tangus and University don Dr Hellen Jemencho.

In Nandi, former Governor Cleophas Lagat made a failed attempt to reclaim his position after he lost the UDA race for the governor ticket.’

Chairman of the County Assemblies Forum Joseph Chepkwony, who was an MCA in Nandi, lost in the UDA primaries, among many ward representatives.
