Director of Public Prosecution Renson Ingonga Monday hosted the Vice President of Programs at the Human Trafficking Institute, Tyler Dunman.
The meeting aimed to discuss potential areas of cooperation and collaboration between the ODPP and the HTI in combating human trafficking crimes.
Key areas on which the two institutions were keen to collaborate include the capacity building of prosecutors on human trafficking, joint initiatives and public engagements, policy advocacy, embedded technical expertise, and data management.
This will play a key role in the effective prosecution of human trafficking cases.
"HTI has a 3-part model aimed at eliminating trafficking at its source by preventing traffickers from exploiting more victims," Dunman said.
"Its model enables the justice systems to more effectively prosecute traffickers," he added.
The programs equip prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and social workers with the skills and expertise they need to combat human trafficking in their own countries.
This comes barely one week since the head of counter-terrorism and transnational organised crimes division in the ODPP, Michael Sang, called on associated entities to embrace teamwork and cooperation in among other terrorist activities, human trafficking.
He said the vice presents a multi-faceted threat that cannot be dealt with by a single entity.
He noted that input from the diverse entities will positively impact efforts geared towards addressing terrorism activities in the region.
