The Kikuyu elders' Kiama Kia Ma outfit have called on security agencies to arrest rogue elders who are using Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's name to advance their selfish interests.

Kungu Muigai, the group's patron and chairperson of the board of the Kenya Cultural Centre Council, said there are elders who allegedly forged the Kiama Kia Ma certificate and are going round Mt Kenya region registering unsuspecting victims with Sh1,000 to join organisation.

He was speaking on Tuesday at Ikinu Nyagoti village during the installation of Githunguri subcounty Kiama Kia Ma chairman Njangiru wa Mbari ya Mbuthia

"In our culture we do not charge any money for one to join us and those who are charging elders Sh1,000 are doing so illegally and should be apprehended," Kungu said.

He said that once one registers with alleged fake elders, they are given a badge that will help identify themselves even to the authorities.

"Someone goes out there, buys a badge for Sh20 and comes to sell it to the elders at Sh1,000. Elders should know better as our Kiama Kia Ma outfit does not ask for money," he said.

He called on Gachagua to pronounce himself on the matter so that the splinter group elders may not use his name in vain.

Shamte Munyua, Kiama Kia Ma chairman Kiambu county, said that the group is neither divided nor lost its way.

"As elders our aim is to unify our people and, as it is in all families, there can be a rogue child and in our midst some of the elders have decided to follow another route that we as elders do not support," he said.

He said that they follow the ways of their forefathers.

"For those that have left our ways, we have classified them as illegal groupings which even the government has banned," he said.

Kimani wa Kamau, patron Kiama Kia Ma kiambu county, called on the DP to hold a meeting with the elders so that he may know what is happening to help unite the elders and clear the air on which grouping he is supporting.
