Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Mt Kenya leaders to unite and refrain from engaging in divisive succession politics.
He said discussions regarding succession should be avoided as they are not healthy.
The DP spoke on Friday during the commissioning of machinery at Joy Millers Ltd in Kirinyaga.
He said he will not allow such divisions to occur, expressing his determination to prevent any attempts to divide Mt Kenya based on counties.
Gachagua said those advocating succession politics at the county level are essentially attempting to divide the Kikuyu community.
"Those scheming to divide the region should know that the people of Mt Kenya are intelligent and aware of what is happening. Those seeking to divide us are enemies of the region," he said.
"We will remain loyal to President William Ruto and in the same spirit support UDA party."
The DP was reacting to recent sentiments from section of leaders who endorsed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as a suitable candidate to deputise Ruto in 2027.
The leaders had said it is Murang'a's turn to produce a deputy president, considering Nyeri and Kiambu have produced presidents and deputy.
A week ago, Nyoro dismissed the concerns, saying Kenya Kwanza leaders from the region are fully united behind the leadership of Ruto and Gachagua.
“As members of Kenya Kwanza, all of us have given our President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua total and unconditional support as they lead our nation,” he said.
On Friday, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru called for unity, urging Kenyans to support the government of the day.
"If there is someone who has stood with DP Gachagua, it’s me and we will continue working together," she said.
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri said there is a push to divide the region through inter-county politics
"The mountain must remain united and we will fully rally behind President Ruto and DP Gachagua. We will not allow anyone to divide us on succession ground," she said.
Others who had accompanied Gachagua included Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango, and MPs Githinji Gichimu (Gichugu), George Kariuki (Ndia) and Eric Wamumbi (Mathira).
