A woman was arrested after she allegedly killed her one-and-a-half-month-old child in a village in Vihiga.

Police said the woman locked herself in her house in Maganda village and stabbed her one-and-a-half-month-old baby before turning the knife to herself.

She stabbed herself five times. This was as she locked herself in their house in the village.

The suspect's husband managed to break into their house and rescue the baby who had two stab wounds on the neck and rushed him to Kapsabet Referral Hospital where he succumbed.

The suspect was found with stab wounds on the neck and stomach and still breathing and was rushed to Kisumu County Referral Hospital and admitted in serious condition.

Police said a blood-stained kitchen knife was recovered and kept as an exhibit.

Police said they will interrogate the woman if and when she recovers from her injuries before deciding to charge her.

Residents said the woman had been traumatised but could not explain the cause of the same.
