Law Society of Kenya vice president Faith Odhiambo has called on the examination body KNEC to audit the results of the just released KCPE to address concerns raised by stakeholders.

The Kenya National Examination Council has been under fire since the release of the results last Thursday after multiple complaints arose over inconsistencies and errors.

The release of the results was also marred by delays in the short code SMS platform, a mishap that the body has said it was probing.

Some of the issues flagged were instances of identical marks for a subject in a whole class.

Knec has since clarified that the instance of identical marks for a whole class did not amount to cheating or irregularity.

It, however, admitted that there were salient issues with the outcome that they were working on, urging affected candidates to appeal if they have any concerns within 30 days.

But the LSK vice president said the exam body should fast-track addressing the concerns as many students do not have peace even as the festive season approaches.

She said the credibility of the council was on trial even as the KCSE is being concluded and marking to start shortly.

“The exam council has for a long time earned the respect in and out of the country for a long track record of credible tests. This is under huge question with the widespread complaints regarding the handling of the last KCPE and how it has responded so far. It leaves a lot to be desired,” she said.

“The council should move with speed to assure candidates and their families that the test was administered with integrity and competently.”

She said KNEC must address the discrepancies that have emerged since it is a matter of public interest.

A section of Members of Parliament has raised concerns over the irregularities in the results of KCPE.

Led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly and Marakwet West legislator Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich, the MPs have revealed plans to summon Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu to explain the incompetence in parliament.

“The exam was not fair and credible. How is it possible for students in the same school to score the same marks, some got marks for papers they did not take. We, the committee for education will conduct investigations,” Toroitich said.

Melly, the chairperson of the National Assembly Education Committee said results announced by KNEC need to be probed.
