There was a standoff at the Senate chambers after Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei defied orders issued by the Speaker forcing him to be sent out.

Cherargei was breathing fire after Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo referred to him as a 'kid' during his submission.

Immediately Cherargei demanded an apology from Madzayo, shouting in the chambers, even as he was being requested to sit down by Speaker Amason Kingi.

He was protesting to have the Madzayo withdraw the statement.

After several requests by Kingi to sit down and let the House proceed, Cherargei insisted on putting out his request, as he felt that he was disrespected.

"If you do not sit down and keep quiet, I will be forced to get you out of the chambers," Speaker was heard saying.

Cherargei was heard saying that the House should be respected, saying he could not sit down before an apology was issued.

"I am not sitting down until he apologises Mr Speaker, this House must be respected. I will not sit down," Cherargei.

The Speaker finally ordered the Sergeant at Arms to use force to get the senator out of the chambers.

"Sergent at Arms, kindly use the necessary force under standing order 126 to get the senator out," Kingi said and immediately, Cheragei was escorted out.

Minutes after Cherargei was sent out, the Speaker turned to Madzayo, telling him to withdraw his statement and apologise, or leave the chambers.

"Senator Madzayo, your addresses are completely out of order, You can't call a colleague a kid, all senators sitting here are honourable senators," Kingi declared.

Madzayo said he regrets his utterances as it was not planned.

"I withdraw my statement and apologise."
