A Nairobi police officer has failed to appear in court to take a plea after she was arrested on Thursday.
The officer was arrested for allegedly soliciting a Sh10, 000 bribe in 2021 for her to release two suspects from custody.
The suspect was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Thursday and was processed for arraignment at Integrity Centre Police Station
The suspect was released on cash bail last evening.
She was to appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for plea taking on Friday at 9:00am but failed to show up.
"When her name was called out, her lawyer informed the court that when the suspect left EACC yesterday evening, she fell ill at night and was subsequently hospitalised thus unable to appear in Court," officials aware of the matter said.
The suspects lawyer pleaded with the court to give her two weeks to get treatment and recuperate.
The court deferred plea, taking to August 9, 2023 when the suspect will be charged.
