The Kenya Kwanza government on Monday announced that it will reduce the proposed housing levy by half from 3 per cent to 1.5.

The new development was made public in a tweet by President Ruto's United Democratic Party.

“The Housing Fund contribution has been reduced to 1.5 per cent from the proposed 3 per cent,” UDA tweeted.

The National Assembly Finance Committee is on Tuesday set to present the revised edition of the Bill for discussion in the House.

The second reading is expected on Wednesday after the approval by the House Business Committee.

Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila on Thursday last week said they will not allow Ruto's threats to undermine Kenya's democracy through the passing of the Finance Bill.

"Should Ruto overrun the National Assembly, we will regroup and overrun him in the wider National Assembly of the people of Kenya," he said.

Raila asked Kenyans to reject excess taxation which is stifling growth and adding more burden to Kenyans.
