Ruto opens second UN-Habitat Assembly at Gigiri

President William Ruto will on Monday officiate the second Session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly on urban agenda in Gigiri, Nairobi.

Over 5,000 UN delegates are attending the five-day event, from June 5 to June 9, 2023. 

"The event is bringing together leaders and various stakeholders from around the world to discuss how to create more livable, sustainable, and resilient cities," the UN said in a statement. 

The UN noted that the assembly is a critical opportunity for leaders to come together and make a commitment to building better cities for everyone.

"We look forward to hosting the Heads of State dialogue today and a variety of side events," the organization said. 

The theme of the session is "A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises."
