The Mashujaa Day celebrations will be held in Kericho County, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has announced.

Koskei said the decision was made after consultations.

"This year's Mashujaa Day will be celebrated in Kericho County on Friday, October 20, 2023," he said.

The theme of the celebrations will be Universal Health Care.

"In this regard, please note that the Thematic Committee should start the process of designing activities leading to the launch of the UHC programme at the venue," Koskei said.

The decision for two out of Kenya’s three National Days to be hosted on rotational basis by counties was started in 2016 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

These are Madaraka Day celebrated on June 1 and Mashujaa Day celebrated on October 20.

Nairobi County, which had traditionally hosted all national celebration of the National Days, was left with only Jamhuri Day celebrated on December 12.

Uhuru said the decision was aimed at boosting national cohesion and integration.

In this spirit, Kenya's 60th Madaraka Day celebrations were on Thursday held at Moi Stadium in Embu County presided over by President William Ruto.
