Lawyer Donald Kipkorir on Wednesday visited the Lee Funeral Home to oversee his mother's preservation process.

His mother, Katarina, died while undergoing treatment in India on May 27.

She was flown to India on May 19 for an appointment with an oncologist.

"At Lee overseeing my Beloved Mama, Katarina, being embalmed. It is a searing experience. My mum is at peace and without pain," he said.

In the ancient days, preservation was done either by freezing, desiccation or exsiccation and many cultures believed that there was eternal life in a preserved body.

Over time, more scientific and modern methods were developed.

According to Wikipedia, embalming is the art and science of preserving human or animal remains by treating them in their modern form with chemicals to forestall decomposition.

The intention is usually to make the deceased suitable for public or private viewing as part of the funeral ceremony or keep them preserved for medical purposes in an anatomical laboratory.

Kipkorir's mother had been ailing for quite some time and was undergoing radiotherapy sessions in Kenya before being flown to India.

He took to his Twitter page to announce his mother's death saying he fought her aggressive cancer with "stoicism, fidelity to God and courage.

"My beloved mama, Katarina rested and is in the bosom of Abraham," Kipkorir said in a tweet on Sunday.

"She never once cried in her searing pain. I thank God for giving her to me. In the heavens, she finds peace and serenity."

Kenyans encouraged him on Twitter urging him to be strong.

"May she rest in peace and may God comfort your family during this difficult period," Khalif Kairo.

"Hugs my friend. May Mom’s soul rest in eternal peace. She fought cancer with brevity and with her supportive son right beside her all along. You’ve set an example of love and commitment to parents. May our Lord God strengthen you," Ng'endo Murugu said.

"Laying a parent to rest isn't easy. May His warm embrace and love surround you all," Zawedde Migz said.
