The court will today hear an application by the prosecution opposing the release of crime buster Ahmed Rashid on bond pending trial.

Rashid was charged with two counts of murder for allegedly fatally shooting two boys in Eastleigh in the year 2017.

The state filed the application urging the court not to release him on bail claiming that he might interfere with witnesses because he is a person of influence being a police officer.

The prosecution has also claimed that Rashid was allegedly seen near the house of one of the deceased in Garissa asking questions about him

Justice Diana Mochache is expected to hear the application by the state and the response by Rashid then determine if she will release him on bond and deny him bond.

However, Rashid has strongly denied the allegations made by the state in the application saying they are all lies and he has not reached out to anyone.

After his interdiction, he no longer enjoys the powers and privileges of a police officer and as such have no access whatsoever to the use of firearms, arrest and detain persons or properties.

He has also denied ever interfering with the witnesses as had been alleged by the prosecution.

He says the witnesses were not known to him and if anything, there exists a witness protection agency and the state has the necessary machinery in place to protect their witnesses if they are apprehensive of any threat to life.
