Azimio la Umoja protests have rocked several parts of Nairobi and Kisumu counties as protesters decry the high cost of living.

In Kawangware, on Monday, residents joined Azimio leader Raila Odinga as they danced to Juliani's legendary song Utawala.

“Niko njaa ata siwezi karanga, hohe hahe shaghala baghala. Niko tayari kulipa gharama sitasimama maovu yakitawala,” the song in part.

The lyrics loosely translate to - I am hungry, I cannot bear it, I am poor but am ready to pay the price. I will not watch as evil reigns.

The crowd even tore pieces of maize flour, poured on themselves and even smeared it on cars as they decried the high cost of living

This is as Raila called for the reduction of the price of basic commodities.

"We want prices of maize flour, sugar and cooking oil lowered,” Raila said.

The Azimio leaders made their first stop in the Kawangware area as they addressed huge crowds.

Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Wycliffe Oparanya, George Wajackoyah,  Babu Owino, Eugene Wamalwa and other leaders were present.
