He said as Azimio members of Parliament, they shall resign if Raila gets arrested.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has issued a warning to the government not to try arresting Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking to K24 on Wednesday, Owino said that thinking of arresting Raila is treason and will lead to the downfall of the country.

“Harboring and intention to arrest Baba is tantamount to treason. And I can assure you that if you want this country to go down, try going that way. Just even utter that you want to arrest Raila, we are ready to start afresh,” he said.

He said as Azimio members of Parliament, they shall resign if Raila gets arrested.

“So do not think about it, do not be deceived, because we clearly know that we have 70 per cent of this country,” Babu said.

“And I can warn you that if you try to arrest Raila then even us as members of parliament we will resign and we will fight a cause that is going to clean this country.”

This comes after politicians affiliated with United Democratic Alliance on Tuesday, said that the police should arrest Opposition Leader Raila Odinga following the Monday demos. 

Speaking during a press brief to the media, the party members want the authorities to hold Raila and other Azimio leaders accountable for damages caused during the demonstrations.

"We want them to be charged for every stone thrown, property destroyed and looted and lives lost, no matter who they are," they said in a statement read by UDA's Chairperson Cecily Mbarire. 

They also accused retired President Uhuru Kenyatta of sponsoring the demonstrations, adding that he should be held accountable for the damages as well. 

The party commended the police for being patient with the protestors, despite being provoked.
