Senator James Orengo, Homa Bay MP George Kaluma are seeking the release of arrested Azimio la Umoja leaders.

Orengo is the company of a team of lawyers including Danstan Omari and others.

A photo seen on social media shows the arrested leaders in talks with a number of police officers.

The arrested leaders include Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Stewart Madzayo (Kilifi), Amina Mnyazi (Malindi) and Ken Chonga (Kilifi South).

The leaders were arrested outside KICC buildings in the morning with the ongoing anti-Ruto protests.

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga who met Azimio leaders at Serena Hotel left without addressing Kenyans as anticipated.

This is as the officers also sprayed water on Raila's convoy outside the hotel.

Moments after Raila got into his designated car, water was sprayed in a bid to disperse the protesters.

Raila is currently addressing his supporters across the city.

Azimio la Umoja spokesperson Makau Mutua through a tweet demanded that the legislator be released immediately.

“Ruto has arrested Opiyo Wandayi, a leading member of Azimio for walking within the precincts of KICC. Now held at Central Police Station. We demand his immediate release or else…” he tweeted.

Mutua said it will not be possible for the government to block peaceful citizens from converging in Nairobi as per their constitutional rights.

On his party, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has faulted the move by the police to arrest Madzayo.

“Arresting Coast leaders will not help. Kenyans must be allowed to exercise their democratic right as per Article 37 of the Constitution,” he said.

Soon after their entrance, they were dismissed by police officers who hurled teargas canisters at them.
