Police on Tuesday killed two suspected armed criminals in a shootout at Njiru in Nairobi.

In a statement on Thursday, police alleged that the three were on a robbery mission.

"Officers who were on routine patrol along Kangudo Road in an unmarked vehicle had noticed a suspicious motorbike at Shujaa area whose pillion passengers were preying on their next victim," NPS said.

Police said that they intercepted the bike at a gas station and they asked the suspects to identify themselves.

"Who are you? He asked. But the defiant trio answered with gunfire, provoking a shootout that killed two of them," DCI said.

"The shootout was followed by the groaning sound of a speeding motorbike flying past the town as the third suspect shifted gears in quick succession to save himself."

Police said they recovered a gun. The gun- a Ceska pistol with serial number KE-AP G0857 was loaded with three rounds of 9mm had been snatched from a senior officer within Embakasi police station in December 2022.

The bodies of the two suspects were moved to the City Mortuary.
