Grade 6 and Class 8 students had their index and assessment numbers and names printed on the answer sheet to ease marking.

Knec CEO David Njengere said the council is in the process of receiving the scripts and centre reports.

Njengere spoke at Maina Wanjigi Secondary School in Eastleigh where he oversaw the distribution of day two exams on Monday.

"For KCPE we used personalised optical marked readers to facilitate machine reading so that when you're running them you know this belongs to a student," Njengere said.

A spot check by the Star revealed that in terms of examination papers, Maths papers for both KPSEA and KCPE had a separate working area.

The answers would be ticked on a separate answer sheet which has a learners index /assessment number and name already printed.

The two papers were packaged differently, with KCPE packed in green bags while KPSEA was in purple storage bags.

There is also a difference in the number of papers written by the pupils. Std 8 pupils sat six papers while KPSEA had five.

Grade 6 learners, on the other hand, had 12 subjects combined to form five assessment tests.

Integrated Science contains Science and Technology, Agriculture, Home Science and Physical Health.

Creative Arts and Social Studies include Social studies, Christian, Islamic and Hindu education, arts and crafts and music.

Summative assessments contribute 60 per cent while the two school-based assessments contribute 20 per cent each.

Unlike in the KCPE exams where candidates are rated out of 100 per cent, KPSEA will account for only 40 per cent of the final score.

The other 60 per cent will come from the classroom-based continuous assessment tests conducted in Grades 4, 5 and 6.
