Outgoing Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has penned an emotional message as he leaves Senate to join President William Ruto's cabinet.

Ruto nominated Murkomen to head the Roads, Transport and Public works docket.

"A lot is going through my mind. Leaving Senate is not easy. It’s been my home for the last 10 years," he said.

Murkomen is expected to deliver his resignation speech at the Senate on Wednesday.

The Senator was among the 22 cabinet appointees who were on Wednesday unanimously approved by the National Assembly following the conclusion of the vetting exercise.

During the vetting process, the Senator said that if confirmed as a CS, he will set aside time to work with regional leaders to solve challenges their respective areas are facing if at all they fall under his docket.

"As a believer of devolution, Mr chair I'll not work from Nairobi. I will once in a month or more so often decide that the ministry today is working from Garissa. We sit there and sort all problems that relate to my ministry with leaders of that region," Murkomen said.

Murkomen will be taking over from outgoing CS James Macharia.

The approval of 22 cabinet nominees now sets the stage for gazettement and then swearing-in.
