Former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has claimed that senior people in government are part of the cartels shipping Kenyan girls to Saudi Arabia.

She made the claims on Tuesday while being vetted by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments at County Hall, Nairobi.

Jumwa is the Cabinet nominee in the ministry of Public Service and Gender Affirmative Action.

"Watu wanaopeleka wasichana wetu ughaibuni ni watu wakubwa katika serikali yetu, na huo ushahidi upo," Jumwa said.

(The people who send our girls abroad are big people in our government, and there is evidence to that effect)

The Former Malindi MP said she will review the licenses of agencies deploying girls to the Middle East.

She said she is empathetic to the situation and the families of those who have lost their loved ones in the Gulf country.

"Ni jambo la kusikitisha sana, kwanza kwa wazazi na familia ambazo zimepoteza ndugu zetu ambao wameenda kutafuta greener pastures  kule ughaibuni," Jumwa said.

(It's very sad, especially to the parents and families who have lost relatives who had gone to search for greener pastures in the Diaspora)

She said if approved, she will work in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Foreign affairs to review the licenses of agencies deploying girls to the Gulf.

He said the issue will be the first she will deal with if approved to sit in the docket.

The former Malindi MP also said she will create more jobs for Kenyan girls so they won't need to go looking for greener pastures in the Arab world.

Jumwa added that she will also ensure that the girls get part of the proceeds from the Sh50 billion Hustler Fund to start businesses and employ themselves.

Cases of girls being abused and even killed in the Middle East have skyrocketed in the recent past.
