Police assures Nyanza of security ahead of Tuesday polls

National Police Service has assured residents of the Nyanza region of security ahead of Tuesday's election.

In a statement on Monday, Nyanza police regional commander Karanja Muiruri said police are key players in the general elections.

"In preparation for this momentous event, NPS has put in place elaborate measures and strategies to ensure that security is guaranteed to enable the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(NPS) to conduct a free, fair, and election," he said.

He said that the Nyanza region has deployed personnel and equipment to provide a safe environment that will enable residents in the region to cast their votes.

Muiruri said that security will help residents to conduct their daily activities without fear of crime or harm.

He assured the residents that all police are committed to providing adequate security across the region before, during, and beyond the election.

He called on the Nyanza region to remain peaceful and law-abiding during Tuesday's election.

"We are counting on your great partnership and support to realize our mandate of delivering a safe and secure general election.

NPS spokesperson Bruno Shioso on Friday said that Police have prepared to deploy at least 150,000 police officers across the country to provide security during the election.

Shioso said that Kenyans should not fear but rather confidently play their role in the elections, and leave the rest to agencies charged with security to do their part.

He called on Kenyans to cooperate with the police so that they can fulfil their mandate of delivering a safe and secure general election.

Kenya is set to hold to conduct the general election on Tuesday.
