The United States Embassy in Kampala has issued a security warning to Ugandans, over increased terror attacks.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Embassy said Ugandans should exercise increased caution when in public places.
It further warned that Ugandans should also reconsider going to places and attending events with large numbers of people, including restaurants and churches.
"Due to increased terrorist activity, U.S. Embassy Kampala recommends that individuals exercise an elevated degree of caution and reconsider attendance at upcoming large public gatherings, such as large-scale worship services and music and cultural festivals in Kampala and Jinja," the US Embassy said.
"Additionally, be mindful when visiting locations where people tend to gather such as hotels, malls, and marketplaces."
The security alert insisted that US citizens in Uganda should also stay alert when in locations frequented by tourists.
The Embassy urged the citizens to also enrol in the Smart Traveller Enrolment Programme (STEP) to receive information and alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency overseas.
The alert comes a few weeks after US and Chinese Embassies in Nairobi warned of possible terror attacks.
In a statement, the US Embassy said terrorists may target the locations that are highly frequented by foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and other parts of the country.
"Locations frequented by US citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks," the statement dated October 13, 2023, reads.
The Chinese Embassy in its notice, which was later deleted, reminded its nationals to stay away from crowded places and areas where foreign tourists gather.
It also warned those intending to visit some particular areas to be cautious.
“In recent times, as global hot issues continue to heat up, Kenya’s domestic security situation has become more uncertain,” the alert reads.
The particular areas it had listed include Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu counties and other Kenyan border areas.
“The Consular Department of the Ministry of Internal Security and the Chinese Embassy in Kenya have reminded Chinese citizens in Kenya to pay close attention to the local social security situation and strengthen their safety precautions,” it adds.
“In the event of an emergency, please call the police promptly and contact the Chinese Embassy in Kenya or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Global Consular Protection and Service Emergency Call Centre.”
