An accident involving a Thika High School bus and a PSV matatu on Saturday happened at the Kuraiha/Mang'u High School footbridge.

None of the students were injured, only a few who boarded the matatu were injured. Those rescued and rushed to the hospital.

The school bus was ferrying students 47 in total to Nairobi for games.

The driver of the matatu and one passenger were trapped in the front seats but were both retrieved with the help of the Fire brigade.

Police said the matatu was extensively damaged in the front and it was towed to the station while the bus was driven to the station and detained awaiting inspection. No injuries were reported from the school bus.

Police said they are investigating the incident. Rains were being experienced then which is believed to have contributed to the accident.

The accident comes barely a fortnight after the Kapsabet Boys High School bus was involved in an accident at Patkawanin along Karbaret-Marigat Road in Baringo County.

Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa said two people have died and several others injured.

"One teacher and one student were fatally injured, five students were seriously injured while 19 others were slightly injured," a police report reads in part.

The injured students have been rushed to Kabarnet and Marigat Mission hospitals, and Baringo County Referral Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been moved to Kabarnet level 4 hospital mortuary.

The bus, which was ferrying 61 students and a teacher, was headed to Marigat and upon reaching the location of the accident, the driver lost control and veered off the road.
