Wajir East MP unveils health cover for 300 Imams, religious leaders

Wajir East MP Adan Daud MP has launched a health insurance cover for Imans and other religions leaders in the constituency.

In a ceremony attended by community members and dignitaries, Daud unveiled a pioneering health insurance programme tailored specifically for 300 Imams and religious figures who serve as pillars of support and guidance in the community.

While acknowledging the invaluable role the religious leaders play in fostering unity and providing spiritual guidance, Daud emphasised the importance of ensuring their access to quality healthcare services.

He outlined his vision to alleviate the burden of healthcare expenses on the clergy to allow them to focus wholeheartedly on their spiritual duties.

"These Imams do not earn any salary and health being a crucial and essential service, I have decided to invest in their well being," the MP said during the launch.

"They will not have to worry about expenses for health as that is now fully covered," he added.

Supkem Regional Coordinator Sheikh Yunis applauded the effort by the MP, adding that the initiative said will help the religious leaders and Imams to focus more on their religious duties.

During the same event, Daud also released Sh35 million bursary for Wajir East constituency.

He said some Sh20 million will go towards tertiary education while Sh15 million will cater for the education of needy secondary school students.

Speaking at the event, Wajir High School Principal Adan Kassim said the launch of the bursary was timely as it will be of much help to the needy students.
