Poor and needy learners in Tarbaj constituency now have a reason to smile following the release of Sh35 million bursary to fund their education.

Area MP Hussein Bare said the monies will benefit deserving learners at all levels of education in a bid to bolster their education and empower them.

The MP issued the bursary at an event held at Jowhar Mixed Day secondary school on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The event was attended by among others religious and political leaders, elders and students from different schools in the constituency.

Speaking at the launch, Bare underscored the importance of empowering needy students in order to support their pursuit for education.

He expressed commitment to support education and ensure every child in Tarbaj gets an opportunity to fulfill their academic dreams.

"This bursary fund is a testament to our dedication to the youth of Tarbaj constituency," he said.

"Education is the cornerstone of progress and it's our duty to invest in the future leaders of our community. With this bursary fund, we are providing tangible support to students who aspire to achieve greatness," he added.

Out of the Sh35 million, Sh25 million will go towards funding the education of needy secondary school and tertiary learners while Sh10 million will go to those pursuing Diploma Teaching in Education (DPTE) course.

Children of National Police Reserves who are in the front line in beefing up security in the region will also benefit from the bursary.

MP Bare said this will encourage the security men and women to continue serving the community.

Osman Abdi, a parent, thanked the MP for the noble initiative.

He said the bursary fund is a lifeline for students who come from humble backgrounds.

The NG-CDF Act, 2015, assented to by President William Ruto in December 2023 increased bursary allocation by five per cent to 40 per cent.

Before the law was amended, allocations to bursary schemes under the fund could not amount to more than 35 per cent of total constituency NGCDF allocation in a financial year.

Under the new law, NG-CDF will also cater for other social benefits such as school feeding programmes, particularly in drought-stricken areas where students drop out of school in search of food and water.
