A man who killed his wife and seriously injured their year old child at Julani A village Samburu, Kwale county has surrendered himself to police, area police have confirmed

Samburu sub-county police commander Lydiah Mambo said the suspect committed the offence on Monday night.

According to Mambo, the man hacked to death his wife using a panga after a little argument over infidelity allegations.

Mambo said the two were reported to have attended a funeral ceremony nearby before the incident occurred.

Police identified the deceased as Pauline Mbeyu, 25.

She said the wife went home early and the husband followed later only to kill her.

"He confessed that he killed the spouse out of anger after finding another man rushing out of his house," she said.

The OCPD said that the suspect alleged that the man pushed him on his way out and decided to confront the wife accusing her of having an affair with the other man.

Mambo said the fight led to the death of the wife and left their child badly wounded.

The suspect ran away and left the baby alone after committing the heinous act.

The baby sustained serious head injuries inflicted by the panga.

She said the child was rushed to Coast General Hospital in Mombasa and was in critical condition.

The OCPD said police have commenced further investigations to ascertain the cause of the conflict.

The man is still on the run but police have launched a manhunt.

Kwale police commander Stephen Ngetich has warned residents against taking matters into their own hands.

He said those who will be found culpable shall be arrested and charged in a court of law.
