Atwoli bids farewell to loyal security officer as he retires

Atwoli described the officer who served him for 20 years as a loyal and trustworthy person.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has bid farewell to his security officer Sergent Robert Chembe.

In a statement on Saturday, Atwoli described him as a loyal and trustworthy person.

The Cotu boss said Chembe has been his security officer for 20 years and will proceed for leave pending retirement.

"Biding farewell to my trustworthy and loyal security officer Sergent Robert Chembe, who has been around me for over twenty years. He is now proceeding on leave pending retirement, May God Bless Him and His Family," Atwoli said.

Atwoli is a veteran trade unionist who has served Cotu for years.

The Cotu boss is also the General Secretary of the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU) and was recently re-elected as President of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU).

He was elected to serve in the role for a third straight term.

The elections were conducted in November 2023, during the 12th Congress of OATUU in Algiers, Algeria.

Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Accra Ghana, OATUU is the only African trade union organisation that represents all the trade union interests in Africa.

Atwoli also serves workers as a titular member of the International Labor Organization Governing Body (ILO) and Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation.
