Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary General Francis Atwoli now says that he had informed Azimio leader Raila Odinga that he would work with William Ruto if he became President in 2022.

Speaking on Sunday, Atwoli said that he had warned Raila that should his campaigns be mismanaged and he fail to win, he would go back to his office in Cotu and work with the government of the day.

"And I told my Azimio people if you mismanage the election and you are not elected, I will return to my office and when I return to my office you should know that I will work with the government," Atwoli said.

"I did not hide them. And indeed we mismanaged the whole election. We didn't have agents, we didn't have any logistics and strategic election committee."

Atwoli reiterated that workers and employers must work with governments of the day because it is governments that provide enabling environments for work and business.

He insisted that as a unionist, his job is to negotiate with the government of the day to ensure workers get better welfare.

"We employers and government and workers will work together because government provides an enabling environment from where we exist. And that is our job, to negotiate with the government," Atwoli said.

The Cotu boss added that during campaigns, he was the biggest critic of Ruto from the Azimio side, but he had already made his position clear to the Opposition leaders on what was to come if he lost the election.

"No one was a critic of William Ruto more than me. In Azimio, I was the one who fought Ruto alone even more than Raila. I even said that trees should be cut in Sugoi. Now they are saying Atwoli has taken Cotu to the government."

In the 2022 presidential poll, Atwoli heavily pushed for a Raila presidency and dedicated time to go around the country campaigning for him.

However, Raila lost to William Ruto.
