Azimio la Umoja Coalition leader Raila Odinga has turned the heat once again on the government over the Embakasi gas explosion.

Raila blasted the Kenya Kwanza government for allowing the plant to operate in a residential area which was bound to cause harm to citizens.

Speaking in Embakasi on Tuesday, the Opposition chief stated that investigations over the incident, shouldn’t take more than 48 hours.

"People are sleeping on their jobs while the lives of Kenyans are in danger. Those culpable for this incident should have already faced action. Investigations should not take more than 48 hours. We already know where the mistake was," Raila said in Embakasi

In addition, the ODM party leader recommended that the displaced families be resettled in the completed constructed affordable housing project.

Raila had earlier donated Sh1 million to help those affected by the Embakasi gas tragedy.

Over the weekend, President William Ruto ordered the sacking of state officials accused of irregularly issuing licenses for the operation of a gas plant that resulted in the explosion.

Ruto attributed the incident to corruption, lack of integrity, and greed among government officials responsible for granting the license to the operator.

The Head of State directed that the Ministry of Energy should ensure the people implicated in the matter should vacate office with immediate effect and face charges for the offences committed.

Hours later, four National Environment Management Authority officials were instructed to step aside amidst investigations into the issuance of the license to the Embakasi gas company.

The owner of the gas filling plant in Embakasi that exploded and killed at least six and injured more than 300 people has been arrested.

He was arrested alongside three senior officials at Nema Monday evening as the probe into the deadly blast goes on, police said.
