Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has weighed in on the ongoing talk on succession politics in Mt Kenya and declared unwavering allegiance to President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

His remarks come at a time the MP has received backing from a section of Mt Kenya leaders to be Ruto's running-mate at the 2027 polls creating what now appears to be a supremacy contest between him and the DP.

But speaking on Friday, Nyoro was categorical that he is fully behind the President and the DP and is only working under their guidance for the good of the country.

"We as Kenya Kwanza, we all give our president and his deputy full, total and unconditional support as they lead our nation," he said.

Nyoro was speaking in Garsen constituency, Tana River County where he was the chief guest at the launch of Kokane Gobu Secondary School at the invitation of area MP Ali Wario Guyo.

"As they lead from the front, the rest of us including me Ndindi Nyoro, we are just handymen and our work is to support them because we have a vision to take Kenya forward especially economically because if Kenya succeeds, all Kenyans benefit," he added.

The remarks now put to rest speculation about Ndindi's opinion following the growing calls from a section of Mt Kenya leaders for Ruto to drop Gachagua for Nyoro in 2027.

UDA leaders and close Ruto allies from Central Kenya have openly endorsed the Kiharu MP to replace the DP.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu on Thursday said Ruto stands a better chance at re-election in 2027 if he picks a more popular leader in Mt Kenya as a running-mate for his re-election bid.

"If you want to win an election you need to defend a seat, and the running mate should be balanced. I would not want to see the president coming in with a running mate who is not popular. I think there will be challenges with Gachagua hence Nyoro will be preferred as we are on the ground listening to people," Nyutu said.

While speaking on Citizen TV, Nyutu said leadership is about people and Nyoro has shown very good social skills with people.

"In my view, the best way is to come up with the most popular running mate, through a nomination," he said.

On Sunday, January 14, Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu spearheaded calls by Mt Kenya UDA MPs to front Nyoro as Ruto's best pick for running mate in 2027.

"We will request Ruto to choose a young person from Murang’a who is Ndindi Nyoro; Gachagua has lost his ground, treating people disrespectfully, including elected leaders," Nyutu stated.

"The women of Murang’a also give birth to leaders and Ndindi Nyoro is qualified enough to deputise Ruto and become a leader," Muriu added.

While Speaking on Thursday in Meru, Gachagua told off the leaders leading the onslaught against him saying "wanaongea matope".

Gachagua told Nyutu and his Nyeri counterpart Wamatinga Wahome to stop being excited on TV and focus on development instead of premature politics.

"Wachunge matamshi yao, kwa sababu wengine wakienda kwa ma TV they get excited wanapotea na kuingia kwa mambo yenye haina haja" he said.

(They should watch their words because some are excited when they appear on the TV and focus on unimportant things).

On Wednesday, Kikuyu Council of Elders offered to mediate between the DP and Nyoro saying external forces could be seeking to undermine Gachagua and create instability in Mt Kenya.

“We are ready to broker the truce between Gachagua and Ndindi Nyoro, but we would wish to request them to form a singular coalition to unite the community,” national chairman Wachira Kiago said.

On Tuesday, President Ruto termed the premature succession politics an insult to Kenyans and asked the leaders to concentrate on delivering on the assignment given to them by Kenyans.

"I want to ask all leaders, it will be an insult to Kenyans. I ask all leaders to focus attention on the delivery of the assignment given to us by Kenyans especially leaders in Kenya Kwanza and UDA."

"Starting from me, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to all the leaders, you have given us a chance to work for you. I want to assure you that we shall do the work diligently. It will be a great problem if we do not deliver," the President said while speaking in Gilgil, Nakuru.
