Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked some Mt Kenya senators to cease talking about the 2027 succession politics.

Speaking on Thursday in Meru, the DP said that some senators are excited and therefore make reckless remarks on the media.

Gachagua asked Nyeri Senator Wamatinga Wahome and his Murang'a counterpart Joe Nyutu to focus on development instead of premature politics.

He said that Kenya Kwanza and UDA leaders should focus on development.

"Wachunge matamshi yao, kwa sababu wengine wakienda kwa ma TV they get excited wanapotea na kuingia kwa mambo yenye haina haja" he said.

(They should watch their words because some are excited when they appear on the TV and focus on unimportant things).

Gachagua said the senator's duties are to oversee the county and leave the national government to him and President William Ruto.

"Niliona senator wa Muranga'a alikuwa anongea matope, huyu wa Nyeri pia anaongea matope," he said.

(I saw the Murang'a senator speaking rubbish and the Nyeri senator also speaking rubbish).

The DP wants the deputy speaker of Murang'a to take control of the leadership in the county and put the house in order.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu have openly backed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for the DP position come 2027.

"We will request Ruto to choose a young person from Murang’a who is Ndindi Nyoro. Gachagua has lost his ground, treating people disrespectfully, including elected leaders," Nyutu stated.

"The women of Murang’a also give birth to leaders and Ndindi Nyoro is qualified enough to deputise Ruto and become a leader," added Muriu.

While Nyoro has not spoken on the matter, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday told off those dragging his name into succession politics.

He said that it is premature to start talking of succession.

President Ruto said leaders should focus on developing the country in their various roles.

Ruto said it is an insult to Kenyans for leaders to debate 2027 succession politics.

"Starting from me, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to all the leaders, you have given us a chance to work for you. I want to assure you that we shall do the work diligently. It will be a great problem if we do not deliver," he said.

The President added that his administration has a big Agenda to fulfil, transform the country, deal with unemployment and focus on agriculture for food production.

He said leaders should not waste time by engaging in politics instead of focusing on what they were elected to do.
