Public Service CS Moses Kuria now says that any leader who is eyeing regional leadership should face him.

In a cryptic message on X, Kuria said such leaders should openly face him in a national challenge.

"You can not be declared an Olympic Swimming Champion for swimming in a bathtub. Oh, ye angling for regional supremacy, come and face me in the open Indian Ocean that is the great Republic of Kenya," the CS said.

His remarks come against the backdrop of what seems like a supremacy battle between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

A section of leaders from the Mt Kenya region have been calling on President William Ruto to replace Gachagua with Nyoro in 2027.

Led by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, the group of leaders contend that Ruto's prospects for re-election could face challenges if Rigathi Gachagua is maintained as his deputy.

Senator Nyutu highlighted the importance of Murang’a’s recognition in national politics, advocating for Ndindi Nyoro as a preferable choice over Gachagua.

"We will request Ruto to choose a young person from Murang’a who is Ndindi Nyoro; Gachagua has lost his ground," Nyutu stated.

Highlighting the need for fairness and accountability, Nyutu insisted that the nomination process for the 2027 election should be impartial, without special privileges for any individual.

In light of the calls, Gachagua has asked Mt Kenya leaders to unite, shun divisive politics, and promote greater participation of the youth in productive socio-economic activities.

Speaking at Kiambu Golf Club on Saturday, the Deputy President said there was a political scheme to divide the Mt Kenya region voting bloc.

He, however, said the schemers would not succeed in their mission as he asked the leaders to focus on the development and socio-economic growth of the people.

"I urge the leaders to be united and focused. Those scheming to divide the region should know that the people of Mt Kenya are intelligent and are aware of what is happening. Those seeking to divide us are enemies of the region. Our relevance in national leadership lies in our unity. We know what disunity and divisive politics did us in the 1992 and 1997 elections," he said.
