Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has come out to defend President William Ruto over the high cost of living being experienced in the country.

Speaking on Monday in Narok, Natembeya said all the leaders must help lower the cost of living.

He urged leaders to stop the blame game and unite for development purposes.

"Our residents in Narok. You have been hearing about the issue of the cost of living. The situation is hard and the cost of living has been skyrocketing, but as your leaders we are supposed to put our heads together," he said.

"It is not the time for a blame game because it is not the work of the President alone. Governors should also work in the counties to lower the cost of living."

Natembeya said that lowering the cost of living should not be left to the president to handle alone.

He welcomed the National Dialogue Report saying what was agreed will be taken into account.

Natembeya's sentiments come amid cries from Kenyans over the unbearable cost of living and increased prices of commodities including fuel.

In the coming week, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is expected to announce newly reviewed fuel prices, as the crude oil prices have gone down, globally.

Clerics have also accused the Kenya Kwanza government of failing to address the high cost of living.

The Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Christian Churches of Kenya said most Kenyans are on the verge of losing hope.

FEICCK general secretary Bishop David Thagana said the National Dialogue Committee failed to address the issue of the high cost of living in the bipartisan talks that ended last month.

"The committee met and addressed issues that only concern them,” he said. The talks delved into creating political offices that will further impoverish Kenyans by bloating the wage bill. They left out the most significant issue that millions of Kenyans were eagerly waiting for, the cost of living."

He faulted President Ruto-led administration for burdening Kenyans with high taxation, thereby adding economic misery.
