Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has commended President William Ruto as UDA party leader for standing with him during his failed impeachment.

Speaking on Friday, the DG said that the leadership of Ruto made sure that witch-hunt was not sanitized at the Senate during his trials.

"I want to take this opportunity to say thank you your Excellency for the support you and your administration together with the Senate, during my choreographed impeachment," Oduol stated

"By supporting me and by Senate dismissing me from the impeachment process, we ensured that political witch-hunt and bad manners were not sanitized."

Oduol further challenged his ODM colleagues to call out corruption issues not only at the National level but also in counties.

"Corruption is corruption whether it is at the national level or county level. ODM leaders should also talk about corruption even at the devolved level in their regions," Oduol added.

In June 2023,  Oduol survived impeachment after 27 out of 43 senators voted to keep him in office.

Senators allied to President Ruto openly supported Oduol while those allied to Opposition leader Raila Odinga sought to have him impeached.

Despite being saved by the Senate, the DG vowed to continue calling out devolved corruption in his county.

Oduol stated that he had made a deliberate and conscious decision to work with the government.

Oduol said when they took oath of office, they took it under the banner of good governance.

“We are very quick to talk about corruption at the national level but we are not talking about devolved corruption,” the DG said.

Oduol also explained why he supports President William Ruto's administration.

"I am the undisputed deputy governor and a member of the ODM but I am friendly to the Kenya Kwanza. The reason (for that) is you all know what happened to me," he said.

"The impeachment went all the way to the Senate. It is these people Kenya Kwanza that saved me," Oduol added.

The decision to also work with the government of the day, Oduol reiterated, is for the sake of the development of the entire Nyanza region.
