Government withdraws Raila, Kalonzo security detail

Also affected are four governors and 50 Azimio MPs.

The security detail of ODM party boss Raila Odinga has been withdrawn.

A police source told the Star that the withdrawal is in relation to the planned mass demonstrations called by the Opposition leader. 

The source said the security detail of other Azimio leaders allied to Raila has also been withdrawn.

They include Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, over four governors and over 50 Azimio MPs.

Raila has called for three days of anti-government demonstrations from Wednesday to Friday. 

The protests, which he said will be game-changing, are aimed at mounting pressure on the Kenya Kwanza government to lower the cost of living. 

Raila also wants the government to withdraw the Finance Act, 2023 which he says contains punitive taxes.
