Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has said that the government will relocate all roadside markets to curb accidents.

Murkomen said counties and the National government will provide spaces for the markets.

He said the markets will not be far from the road.

"We shall remove all the markets from the roadside. The County and National government will provide markets not very far from the road so that people who are selling products to travellers can get the opportunity," he said.

"As a ministry, we are ready to provide access roads for the markets to be moved out and vehicles that are intending to buy goods along the highway to have entry and exit."

He urged Kenyans to cooperate when asked to move away from the roadside.

The CS who had on Saturday visited the Londiani accident scene where about 55 people lost their lives said investigations will be conducted to establish the cause of the accident.

Murkomen said that the Londiani accident was a disaster that could not have been too catastrophic if markets were far from the road.

"We cannot have that high number of people operating just next to high traffic roads. I need your support in case there are court orders," he said.

The CS said the government will also support the families of the accident victims.
