Residents at Mayanja Kibuke market in Bungoma County were left in great shock on Sunday after a trailer veered off the road, killing four family members.

Speaking to the Star on Sunday, Patrick Masika said that the deceased were travelling back home to Malava in Kakamega County.

They had attended the burial of their loved ones in Bungoma County.

Masika said that those who died were two women and two men who were travelling on motorbikes heading towards the Kanduyi route.

“We have witnessed a very bad accident here, it is our appeal to the KeNHA to erect pumps on the road to curb frequent accidents,” he said.

Masika said that many people have lost lives along the same road but the relevant authorities haven’t taken an initiative of erecting bumps on the busy road.

He said that the residents at Mayanja market were unable to identify the deceased.

Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa, in a condolence message seen by the Star, said that the deceased hail from Machemo community area, Chemuche ward in Malava constituency in Kakamega County.

“I have learnt with great sadness, the tragic death of four residents of Kakamega County who perished in  a road accident at Mayanja shopping centre along Malaba- Eldoret road while on their way back home after buying their loved one in Bungoma County,” he said.

Barasa cautioned road users to be careful to avert such accidents in future.
