Tragedy as two die in Ndhiwa road crash

Two people have died after a matatu they were travelling in was involved in a road crash along Sori-Rodi Kopany road in Ndhiwa constituency.

The two were a medical officer and a passenger.

The accident occurred after the matatu hit a stationary tractor.

Witnesses said the PSV was ferrying eight passengers to Homa Bay town when it hit the tractor which had stalled beside the road.

“The tractor was stalled when it was delivering sugarcane to a weighbridge. It developed mechanical problems forcing the driver to stop beside the road,” a witness said.

Homa Bay deputy county health promotion officer in charge of communication Kennedy Omollo said his colleague who died was a clinical officer working with LVCT.

“The medic was travelling for her weekend classes when she was involved in the road,” Omollo said.

One person is undergoing specialized treatment after sustaining serious injuries.

The police boss urged residents to observe traffic rules to avoid accidents.

“I urge road users to observe traffic rules to enhance safety on our roads,” he added.

The bodies were moved to the Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.

The wrecked vehicles were towed to Ndhiwa police station.
