Cop dies in accident involving bodaboda rider in Nakuru as Kiambu toll rises to 8

The officer was on a motorcycle headed for Solai when it landed into a ditch

A police officer died while a second one was seriously injured after they were involved in an accident in Kaptarakwa area along Subukia-Solai road in Nakuru.

They were being ferried on a motorcycle when the accident happened on Saturday, June 3 night, police said.

The rider was also seriously injured after the midnight incident.

The two officers attached to Mwitethia Patrol Base were on a motorcycle headed for Solai when the rider lost its control and landed into a ditch killing one on the spot.

Their guns were secured at the scene and handed to authorities, police said.

The injured were rushed to the Subukia Sub County hospital where they were admitted while the body was taken to the Nyahururu County mortuary.

In Thika, a driver died after his car rammed onto a tree along Flyover-Thika road.

The accident happened Saturday night when the driver lost control of the car in Pipeline area and rammed into a tree.

Two passengers who were in the car sustained serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Police said fatal accidents in the weekend were on the rise.

This came as the death toll from the Githunguri Kwa Michael accident that occurred on Friday along Kiambu-Ruiru road in Kiambu County rose to eight.

This is after two people died while undergoing treatment at hospitals in Kiambu and Ruiru, police said.

Seven survivors are receiving treatment in different hospitals in Kiambu and Githunguri.

Locals are now calling upon the government to push a road contractor to resurface and complete the Kiambu - Githunguri Road. 

Residents also want the road under construction to be fitted with signage and speed bumps as well as rumbles, to enable motorists to control their speed.

In the crash that occurred at around 7:30 pm on Friday where a matatu collided head-on with a private vehicle.

Githunguri Deputy Sub- County Police Commander, George Koros, said the accident occurred after a personal car lost control and collided head on with 14-seater matatu.

Four people died on the spot while the other four died while receiving treatment in Githunguri, Ruiru and Kiambu Hospitals respectively.

Koros said seven people are receiving treatment in various hospitals in the county.

The whereabouts of the driver of the personal car are unknown.

Area residents led by Ngewa Member of County Assembly Charles Kangethe have faulted the Kenya National Highways Authority for laxity in erecting  speed bumps on the road which they say is a black spot.

They have urged KeNHA to erect road marks to give proper directions to the drivers using the road.
