Ruto rises to shake hands with Raila at Mukami's burial

Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Friday attended the late Mukami Kimathi's burial at Njabini.

As Raila arrived, he headed to the casket of Mukami and paid his respect to her.

He then proceeded to great the leaders who were present.

Raila greeted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and proceeded to greet President William Ruto.

Ruto rose to shake hands with him as the crowd cheered.

Mukami's burial saw Ruto and Raila meet for the first time after the fiercely contested elections 2022 general elections.

This will be the first time Ruto, Gachagua and Raila come face to face.

The leaders have been throwing jabs at each other publicly over cost of living, Finance Bill, 2023, protests, Shakahola saga, state appointments among others issues.

Raila is among top official leaders who have graced the burial service.

Raila had confirmed that he will attend the funeral service.

“I cannot miss the funeral of Shujaa Mama Mukami wa Kimathi. We have been very close and I will be in Njabini for her final ceremony on earth,” Raila said.

Mukami Kimathi died aged 96 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi after developing breathing difficulties.

She passed away on Thursday night, May 4, 2023.
