Ruto appoints Isaac Kipkemboi Melly as member of SRC

He will serve for a period of six years.

President William Ruto on Friday appointed Isaac Kipkemboi Melly to be a member of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

In a gazette notice dated May 11, Ruto said Kipkemboi will serve for a period of six years.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 230 (2) (b) (0) of the Constitution and in accordance with the procedure set out in section 7 (13) of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission Act, 2011, I appoint Isaac Kipkemboi Melly to be a member of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission," the notice read.

Ruto nominated the former Uasin Gishu Senator for the post on April 18 and submitted his name to Parliamentary for vetting.

Melly will represent the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) in the salaries commission.  

He was among 10 candidates the parliamentary commission nominated for the position  from a pool of about 103 applicants. 

Others nominees were Naomi Shaban (Taveta), Florence Mutua (Busia Woman Representative), David Were (Matungu), Peter Mwathi (Limuru) and Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North).

Abdi Muhumed Ali, Justa Wawira Mwangi, Ruth Nyaga and Judith Wachianga Ojwang also made it to the list.

Interviews for the job were held on March 22, 2023.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission is a government Commission established under the Salaries and Remuneration Commission Act, 2011.

The commission is mandated to inquire into and determine the salaries and remuneration of state officers and other public servants.

The office is also responsible to keep and review all matters relating to the salaries and remuneration of public officers.

SRC advises the national and county governments on the harmonisation, equity and fairness of remuneration for the attraction and retention of requisite skills in the public sector.

It is also mandated to conduct comparative surveys on the labour markets and trends in remuneration to determine the monetary worth of the jobs of public offices among other functions.
