Kenya Kwanza leaders have said they will only hold talks on IEBC recruitment.

Led by the Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot, they said the talks were limited to only IEBC, adding that this was the context of President William Ruto's address on Sunday.

"This conversation is limited to only IEBC matters. We get concerned when we begin hearing words like National Accord which is a euphemism for nusu mkate or handshake," he said.

Cheruiyot noted that as members of the Parliament, they could not be leading in breaking the law they are mandated to make.

Disregarding the demands by Azimio to have teams drawn outside Parliament for the talks, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale said it was absurd.

"To insist that he wants the process to take place outside Parliament, it is assuming that he doesn't have competent people within his team," he said.

Khalwale said Azimio leader Raila Odinga should have confidence in his team and choose representatives for the joint committee for the talks.

Speaking on Sunday, Ruto called for a truce to allow talks between the government and the opposition on the matters raised.

The President said his troops in Parliament and those of Azimio can agree on how the new commissioners will be picked.

"Considering the matters raised on this particular subject, I suggest a bi-partisan engagement in Parliament on the reconstitution of the IEBC panel within the parameters of the law and the constitution," he said.

Once named, the joint committee is set to hold talks on the issues raised by Azimio as priorities and present its report to the Parliament.

The Parliament will then debate the same and vote on it.
