The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed social media reports that it is abetting chaos during the Azimio demonstrations in Nairobi.

In a statement on Thursday, the NPS said such claims were unfounded and intended to tarnish its image.  

"We wish to bring to the attention of the General public that such unfounded and malicious claims are not only intended to cause unnecessary fear in the society but are also deliberate moves meant to tarnish the image of the National Police Service," it said. 

The authority reiterated its commitment to serve and protect Kenyans, adding that it will undertake the same while adhering to the rule of law and utmost respect for human rights.
