Kenya has been praised by eight foreign missions as an anchor of stability, security and democracy in Africa following the highly competitive but peaceful August elections.

However, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of Canada, USA, Australia, The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and the UK have expressed concern over the acts of violence and destruction witnessed in some parts of the country during the mass protests.

They said the acts of lawlessness including destruction targeted at places of worship is also damaging economic activities at a significant time Kenya is facing financial challenges.

"We, therefore, call on all leaders and all Kenyans to maintain peace, show restraint and work toward a shift resolution for the common good of Kenya," the envoys said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

They said they are cognizant of the constitutional right of Kenyans to picket and demonstrate but called on all actors to exercise restraint for the good of the country.

The group lauded Inspector General of police Japhet Koome for launching investigations into acts of lawlessness including attacks on police and invasion and destruction of private property.

"All actors also have a responsibility to adhere to the principles of democracy, freedom and the rule of law," they said.

During Monday's mass demonstrations, a church was torched in Kibra and about 2,000 intruders invaded a farm belonging to the family of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta where they cut trees, stole over 1,400 sheep and set the farm on fire.

Another group of vandals also stormed a company belonging to Azimio leader Raila Odinga in Embakasi and pelted it with stones.

Interior CS issued a statement and condemned the attacks saying no such incidents will be allowed going forward.

"With or without notices, demonstrations and protests of any type which injure people, security officers, businesses and property shall be prevented at all costs," he said.
