Raila lauds protesters as he storms Kibra for demos

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has thanked his Kibra supporters for turning up in large numbers to heed his call for protests.

Kibera residents warmed to the former prime minister as he toured the area.

The ODM leader has maintained that the demonstrations are still on until President William Rut0 addresses the high cost of living among other issues.

"Nyinyi ni wazalendo wa Kenya na wanajeshi wa Kenya nasema asanteni sana kwa kusimama imara ndio kwa sababu nimekuja na jeshi ya Azimio," he said.

He has made several stops on his way to Kibera to address and assure protesters they are still together.

Raila's convoy made its way to  Kawangware at around 1.30 pm and addressed the residents on the way before exiting at Dagoretti corner.

In Kawangware, protesters pelted stones at police officers who tried to stop Raila's convoy.

The officers who were first to throw teargas at the convoy had a rough time responding.

The police then boarded their vehicle and rushed to safety.

The Opposition leader who was expected to hold demos in the CBD instead chose to go to Kawangware because of the heavy police presence in the city centre.

Raila then made his way to Kibera through the Jamhuri sports ground route.

He was accompanied by Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, former devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and other MPs.

It, however, remains unclear on the next step Azimio brigade will take after touring Kibra.
