Leaders from Luo-Nyanza allied to President William Ruto have asked residents to disregard the demonstrations called by Azimio-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga.

The leaders have asked residents not to participate in the Monday and Thursday protests as they are not healthy for any development.

They said demonstrations are always associated with the destruction of property and sometimes the loss of human lives.

The politicians, Martin Ogindo, Odoyo Owidi, John Odek and Ben Onyango asked residents to ignore Raila by staying away from the protests.

“The best way to address the matter is for residents to avoid participating in it. We’re also asking Raila to stop calling demons because they taint the image of our community," Ogindo said.

Addressing the press at Nyahera village in Kasipul constituency, Ogindo said economic hardship cannot be solved by holding demonstrations.

They asked Raila to provide a solution instead of spearheading demos.

Ogindo who is the former Rangwe MP argued that Luo as a community will be the biggest losers concerning the impact of the demonstrations.

He is currently the chairman of the Kenya Fish Marketing Authority.

“Investors are already scared of investing in Kisumu because of demonstrations,” he said.

Owidi who is the chairman of Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency argued that demos will never help the situation and instead escalate it.

He said the current economic situation was caused by the long drought witnessed in the country.

He asked Raila to become an advisor to President Ruto with the wisdom he has on economic issues.

“It is obvious that a solution for drought is rainfall which is controlled by nature. Let’s not engage in activities which will not bear any fruit,” Owidi said.

They reiterated the calls to have Raila reciprocate by supporting Ruto after the latter stood with him in the 2007 presidential election.

“Let’s also learn to return the favour after we’ve benefited. Instead of calling demos, we ask Raila to reciprocate by ensuring his supporters and him voting for Ruto in the next polls,” he added.

Odek said demonstrations are purely political interests guised as the cost of living.
