Running battles in estates as police block protesters

Police officers are engaging Azimio supporters in running battles in key opposition stronghold estates in Nairobi.

 

Police are blocking Azimio supporters from accessing the Central Business District to participate in the march to State House mass action.

In Kibra area, police have blocked roads leading out of the highly populated estate as they engage protesters in running battles.

They have blocked access to both Ngong' and Langáta roads which can be used to access the CBD.

Police have teargassed and arrested a number of protesters defying their orders or those attempting to lit tires on the roads.

Rowdy youths have been pelting police vehicles with stones with police responding by lobbing teargas canisters.

Earlier, they stoned a vehicle owned by a media house that was ferrying media personnel who are covering the protests.

In Kawangware area, police have arrested dozens of Azimio supporters pushing to access major roads to the CBD.

They have also rounded up several boda boda riders suspected of transporting protesters using backstreets  to very Azimio supporters to the CBD.

Along Juja Road, Police have blocked protesters from Mathare and neighbouring estates of Dandora and Baba Dogo from accessing the CDB routes.

Armed officers have also barricaded the Juja-Thika Road link road as they block protesters from accessing the Superhighway.
