Azimio leader Raila Odinga has asked Senate Speaker Amason Kingi let the Minority side have its desired leadership in the House.

Speaking to the media at Parliament Buildings, Raila said Kingi should let the opposition have the leadership it wants in the House.

“We have leadership challenges in the Senate. The leadership of political parties should not be interfered with,” he said.

He wondered why Kingi is yet to effect changes in the Senate despite Azimio settling for a fresh crop of leaders in the House.

He reiterated that political parties should be allowed to make changes to their leadership in the House without interference.

“When a political party makes its changes, it should not be interfered with. We are asking the Speaker or anybody else to allow Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance to make changes in its leadership as they wish,” he said.

With him were senators Ledama Ole Kina (Narok), Enock Wambua (Kitui) and Edwin Sifuna (Nairobi).

Raila argued that Parliament has no business entertaining court injunctions.

Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo) who had been earmarked for removal as the Minority Whip had moved to the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) challenging the decision of Azimio to remove her from the position.

Raila’s protest comes after Kingi failed to announce the leadership changes in the House.

Kingi had argued that Senate Minority leader Stewart Madzayo had written the letter instructing him to have the status quo maintained pending the hearing and determination of the case.
