National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro has responded to Kenyans who have been asking for the whereabouts of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on Saturday, Osoro said Gachagua's absence from the political space is because he took time off work to rest.

"I’ve seen people raise issues with the absence of the Deputy President in the political scene.

"The Deputy President can also relax. He has been worked up for some time and has now taken a break for a week or so, let him relax,"  the South Mugirango MP said.

Osoro went on to say that the second-in-command will be in Nyeri on Sunday and will address any questions they have.

"I hear tomorrow he will be in Nyeri, he will speak for himself. For now, it has been very tough on him."

The Whip, however, reminded political leaders to shun using blackmail as a way to survive in politics.

While he did not direct the message to any particular person, he insisted that they must stop the politics of personalities and focus on development.

"The most important thing for us in the political space, we must shun blackmail for us to survive. It’s important for us to stop the personality discussion and focus on development," Osoro added.

His remarks come after a section of Kenyans questioned the DP's whereabouts after missing several key official functions in the past few weeks.

A section of the media also reported that he has not been to at least 11 key functions.

The President and the DP have always received international guests together and attended most functions together including the county tours.
