Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has lauded Interior CS Kindiki’s efforts to tame the increased cases of banditry in the North rift.

Kidero was speaking on the recent InfoTrack poll that revealed that Kenyans ranked Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as the highest performing cabinet secretary six months into Kenya Kwanza regime.

He said the high ranking of CS Kindiki portrays the real and constant efforts the cabinet secretary has undertaken in the past months to combat banditry in the North Rift and promote security across the country.

“The backbone of any country is security and the score on Professor Kindiki does not surprise me because basically, Kenyans are saying we are safe, we are happy with what Professor is doing because he is in the trenches,” Kidero said on K24 on Wednesday.

“He is not an armchair philosopher talking about security from the comfort of Harambee House. He is up in Northern Kenya in the trenches with the security forces trying to resolve that problem.”

Kidero said the high ranking of the Ministry of ICT in the InfoTrack poll was consistent with the digitisation and transparency efforts they have been carrying out that are in line with President Ruto’s agendas.

“One of the things the President highlighted is he was going to fight corruption so that more money can go into productivity,” Kidero said.

"Digitisation, making activities to be transparent and online and with a lot less human intervention will certainly reduce corruption. We’ve seen that in the last six months."

He said people should give the Kenya Kwanza government a chance and time to do its duties.

“I think we need to give government time, we’re all Kenyans, just criticizing and taking a back seat will not help,” he said.

On Tuesday InfoTrack released a survey that revealed Kindiki had been ranked by Kenyans as the best-performing Cabinet Secretary.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu came second with 27 per cent followed by Sports and Culture counterpart Ababu Namwamba at 8 per cent.

The survey was conducted between February 21 to February 24 and the respondents were across eight regions across 47 counties.
